Comment: Chicken was awesome! Not too greasy unlike before where you can actually smell old cooking oil used. 5+1 promo is a good deal. New management made store fresher, cleaner and sanitary.

Comment: Great chicken and chups. They also have like 3 (!!!) different menus. Great selection all around, they'll fry your chicken any way you like it. What else. It's pretty quick and cheap. Some say it tastes after midnight, but that's only because you're usually wasted after midnight. Nice staff. Also the place is named after a great musician (rest in peace king...) totally recommend going if you're on queen street.

Comment: ***EDIT*** The owners have changed. This place used to be a 5 star AMAZING PLACE but it has now gone down the drain after a change of management. Very unfortunate.
To put it simply, if I don't give these guys at least a 5 I'd be robbing them. The multiple times that I've gone to Avachi, I've received nothing but impeccable service. I go in, order a LARGE Kebab on Chips and get my food back, hot and tasty, in 30 seconds flat. I've never had service this fast with such good food.
Not to mention, the food is also amazing. The meat is succulent and juicy (definitely NOT dry). The chips, rice, and salad are all super fresh, and the portions are great. You're guaranteed to be full off a medium, and this is coming from a rather big dude.
Pricing is also really good. For a kebab shop in the city, it's hard to believe these prices are so low. I go to a food court in some back end suburb to get a kebab that size and I'm paying $4 more.
I guess the one trade-off is that the place is kinda small and so seating options INSIDE are somewhat limited. There is however more seating OUTSIDE (with some good cover). But as they are ON Queen Street, right next to the Metro, AND have AMAZING prices, the trade-off is worth it every time. I've also never had an issue with seating because I'm in and out in less than 2 minutes since I always head down during the breaks in between my Uni Classes.
All in all, this is a great place that you have to try at least once (or more than once!) and I would highly recommend it.

Comment: Does not show very clearly in the picture, but from the colour itself you can tell this chicken is clearly starting to go off.
After the owner changed, this place suddenly started to become very weird, too much fat in the chicken, old tasting chickens, soggy chips etc. Chicken is not fresh, it tastes and smells off. Chips are obviously pre made as well, as it is very soggy.
I really used to like this place, very sad to see this place falling off like this. Based on other reviews, I guess people all feel the same way as well.
It was $20, but there is no way to really contact them from here(no phone number), and I can't take this all the way back to the shop, so really nothing to do. Just wasted my dinner and time.
I hope this place will become like before..
Bye my past favourite place, will never return again.

Comment: I used to love the taste and enjoyed my quick lunch here last year. Since the owner changed, the chicken tastes terrible. I only can taste the fat of batter. The chicken tastes slightly off as well. I bought a box of chicken wings but only got all nibbles plus some nuggets , paying around $20 but I could only swallow 3 pieces and threw the rest away. Never come back as I already gave them second chance.

Comment: Among halal fried chicken in Auckland,Avachi has always been one of the best. But,haven't been visiting since December last year,I was in awe trying their current fried chicken today. It has been upgraded! The buttermilk chicken was juicy and tender, covered in a crispy batter, with a perfect savoury from combination of spices.I found a perfect buttermilk fried chicken in Auckland! What a surprise!!Keep up the good job,Avachi!?????
Edited:
Okay, now is November 2020, and I have changed my preference.
The fried chicken was not anymore my infinite obsession.
And it was because Avachi has introduced their new products that were just beyond delicious! I was wondering why so many people were waiting outside, and apparently they were waiting for the Chicken Steak! It took me one bite to shift my preference. I am hooked and I am loyal to their chicken steak!!!! It was similar to the Taiwan-style fried chicken! So crispy, tasty, and because I love the "mala" flavour, it was spicy!!!!Love it so so so so much! Thank you for having this new product, Avachi!!!

Comment: Since the new owners taken over quality has been down the drain, fried chicken doesn’t taste anything like they use to. I grew up, studied and worked around queen st for more than a decade, really enjoyed their fried chicken when the old owners use to run the place. Gone the good old days.

Comment: I walked here for a late night binge and was greeted with smiles from the duo-team. I appreciated the warm welcome and ordered the chicken.
I was extremely grateful for the complimentary tender pieces that came with the box of chicken drums. Thank you so much, Avachi.
The chicken was crispy, juicy and perfectly seasoned - this really is the best fried chicken that I have eaten in years. Crunchy with a lot of flavour on the outside and succulent meat on the inside.
