Comment: I would have rated this place higher but the service we received wasn't very friendly and inviting. The food was beautiful and fresh and the portion sizes were good value for money. I especially enjoyed the spicy tuna roll, the tuna was melt it your mouth...so yummy!! We come to Auckland regularly on holiday and decided to give this place a go. All the places we have dined in for lunch and dinner so far on our holiday have given us outstanding and really friendly service, I have been really impressed....that is until upon entering this restaurant. The young asian boy that greeted us was not very welcoming or friendly, I got the impression that he was over working in this place and simply didn't want to be there. We had to wait quite some time for our food and drink order to be taken. I could understand the wait if it was busy but it wasn't. When we did get our drinks from the young boy working on the bar they were blonked on the table with no smile or acknowledgement..it was a very sour response. The restaurant didn't at all seem like a happy vibrant place. Aside from the unfriendly service we received from the two young boys the little bit of service we got from a young asian girl was friendly and it would have been a more pleasurable dining experience if we had received service from her all night. One other recommendation is to have Japanese music playing as this adds to the authenticity of the overall dining experience in a Japanese restaurant. We won't be coming back to this restaurant again and won't be recommending it to anyone. You get one shot at wooing customers and this place blew it. Hey...with all the endless restaurant choices in Auckland why would we return?

Comment: I've been coming to Tanuki's Cave for 20+years, there is always a wait for a seat at the bar, but its always worth the wait. The music, the ambience are the perfect backdrop to the tasty selection of yakitori. It doesn't matter what you order, it's all good!

Comment: Seems like a lovely place, and has lovely staff, but to say the food was disappointing is an understatement. We ordered a "large sharing plate" of teriyaki salmon, and what arrived was a small plate with two medium-sized salmon steaks sitting in a sad pool of teriyaki sauce. The salmon tasted as if frozen, it was overcooked (dry..), and the teriyaki sauce seemed to just be from a jar. That was all. It was hardly shareable, despite coming in at a cost of $28. Absolutely ridiculous, would not recommend.

Comment: I dined by myself here last week. Whilst the place was super busy, my food arrived promptly, and was superb. Everything that I selected was excellent. I have been here a few times and always found the staff to be really polite and easy to deal with. I highyl recommended this place. Must try.

Comment: We highly recommend Adriatco restaurant. The atmosphere, decoration, and food are breathtaking. All the staff are perfect, making dinner a joy. The food is cooked perfectly and the chef and staff must be praised. We will visit again. Top restaurants in the west and central Auckland.

Comment: Atmosphere was great dark with my favourite kind of lighting to chill in with a few sake and good music but the service was so robotic with no smile, only 2 other guest but they forgot a drink and the food was so so that I had to apologize to my guests. Zero love given. Will go back for a drink only. Been coming here since the late 90s.

Comment: This is a favourite place to go prior to a show. The food is always very good. We like sitting up at the bar to enjoy the bustle of the restaurant. The service was very good and the prices reasonable. The only negative was that my chair had grease or something on it so when I pulled it in my hand got slimy. I washed up in the restroom, problem solved. Would definitely recommend.

Comment: Come on now - you know it's going to be a stunner of a place when it has giblets on the menu! You have to admire the Japanese, and you know this is authentic Japanese, with such treats as Vienna sausage with mustard cooked over coals on a skewer (yes you read that correctly - how kooky and offbeat is that). I love the subterranean feel, I love the smoky perfume in the air, I love the energy of the staff and I love the selection of lovingly char-cooked snacks on sticks. Try them all!
